40/50 Penetration Grade Bitumen
40/50 penetration grade bitumen is produced by the air blowing process of vacuum residue in the distillation tower of our company. The penetration value is controlled to be between 40 and 50 in both laboratory tests and field applications. 40/50 bitumen is used for the production of asphalt pavements in the road construction industry and is classified as a hard road bitumen with low penetration, making it suitable for hot climates.
Applications of 40/50 Bitumen:
- Road construction
- Asphalt paving in hot climates
Properties of 40/50 Penetration Grade Bitumen:
- Thermoplasticity: 40/50 bitumen has thermoplastic properties, which means it softens at high temperatures and hardens at lower temperatures. This unique temperature-viscosity relationship is crucial in determining performance parameters such as adhesion, durability, and application temperatures of bitumen.
- Temperature dependency: The state of bitumen depends on temperature. The temperature-hardness relationship of bitumen is dependent on the type of crude oil and its refining method.
Advantages of 40/50 Penetration Grade Bitumen:
- High resistance to rutting and shoving
- Good fatigue resistance
- Excellent durability
- Suitable for hot climates
Storage and Handling:
40/50 bitumen should be stored in a heated tank at a temperature between 120°C and 160°C. It should be applied at a temperature between 160°C and 180°C.
Safety Precautions:
- 40/50 bitumen is a hot material and can cause burns.
- It is flammable and should be kept away from open flames.
- Adequate ventilation should be provided when working with bitumen.
